Tekstilbank was formed in 1986 by the Akin Group to provide corporate banking services to the private sector, particularly the textile industry. Over the following decade it broadened and diversified its activities. Today it offers its clients a wide range of services from corporate to retail banking along with treasury products.

Tekstilbank went public in 1990. Today 29,98 percent of its shares are traded on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. In 1992 the Akin Group sold 30 percent of its shares in the Bank to GSD's foreign trade experience and financial strength fueled a rapid growth in the Bank's activities and turnover. As it stepped up its retail banking activities, Tekstilbank broadened its deposit base by expanding its branch network. Today Tekstilbank has a paid-in capital of TL 3.4 trillion, 22 branches strategically located in financial and business hubs throughout Turkey, and correspondent relations with over 400 banks worldwide.
